St. Peregrine focused his energy on good works, where he dedicated himself to the poor and sick. His health deteriorated and he was diagnosed with cancer.  The evening before his scheduled surgery, Peregrine prayed before the image of Christ, and when he awoke, he was healed. Because of this,Peregrine has been invoked as the patron saint of those suffering with cancer.
